8 ways to overcome pandemic anxiety

We were very happy when 2020 arrived. We were celebrating another New year. We were planning to make this year “The Best year“. We were feeling confident, ambitious and motivated. Everything was going great but then something happened that changed our life. It was Covid-19. The pandemic was not taken seriously in the very initial stage. Then, the lockdown happened & later, it became the most talked-about topic.  We started to worry about our future, family and health. People were anxious. We desperately needed something to overcome that anxiety.

But later, it’s all about “The Great Comeback“. The ways we handled and managed things was commendable. People went into quarantine for months. Everyone was fighting back by wearing masks and washing hands. Unfortunately, in the fightback, we still lost millions of people all around the world. But everyone was making sure that the world would be pandemic-free as soon as possible. And it is rightly said that “There is always a silver lining to every cloud“. There were some changes which were just “Blessings in disguise“. The positive changes this lockdown brought were appreciated.  Here are the 8 ways from which the world overcame tension and anxiety:-

1. Taking care of the loved ones

We all were in quarantine for months and we had very few things to do. We realised the importance of family. As we spent time with them, several things made us happy. We got to know, how our children think, what’s important to them. We, kind of renewed, our bonds with one another. We got along really well, which brought a special change in our character.

2. Health over everything

Most importantly, we realised the importance of health. Before lockdown, health was an option for us but now, we have made it a habit. We learnt about immunity. We started wearing masks and washing hands frequently. Maybe, it was a call for us. We realised how much we were ignoring health and how important it has become. It was an eye-opener for everyone.

3. Work from Home

It was probably the best thing for working professionals. They were worried about their career but “Work from Home” made them happy. You can work from the comfort of your home. Without going out, no travelling costs, no drop in intensity, “Could it be any better“? We turned on our working mode and enjoyed it. This is something that could become a “New Normal“. We should make a habit of it.

4. Being responsible

In those tough times, we developed an amazing quality of being responsible. We always ensured that everyone in our family was taking precautions. Whenever we went out, we made sure that we were wearing masks, sanitising our hands frequently and maintaining social distance with others. We became responsible for others also by making them remember to carry a sanitiser and an extra mask also. “Mankind was helping one another” & that was so special.

5. Financial awareness

The world became anxious. One of the reasons behind that anxiety was “No earning“. People struggled a lot with their finances. Before lockdown, we were satisfied with whatever we were earning. Suddenly, this pandemic arrived and made millions of people jobless. They were mentally disturbed. So, this lockdown taught us to be financially aware. It taught us that one source of income is not sufficient. When things got better, people started to work, we noticed that people were also doing something called “Side Hustle” and that was brilliant. Warren Buffett said, ” If you have only one source of income, you are just one step away from poverty“. It’s the main reason behind the success of numerous Startups that initiated during the lockdown.

6. Exercising

Probably the best habit we made. Exercising clears all the anxiety and negativity. We feel confident and motivated after exercising. It raises endorphins and serotonin levels in our body which leads to emotional balance. It shifts the focus of the brain completely and that’s the only thing required when you are anxious. Just focus your brain on something else & get busy. It truly resists anxiety. We know people started work from home but we started “workout from home” also. It should be a permanent habit. Give 45 minutes to your body for 5 days a week and you will find a “New You“.

7. Excellent reason to get rid of toxic people

We were maintaining social distancing for a noble reason but there can’t be a better reason to get rid of toxic people around you. When you are anxious, all you need is positivity. Just don’t let yourself go near those negative people who are sending negative vibes and affecting your mental health. “Mindsets are precious, not everyone can afford them“.  Detox yourself from toxic people and you will observe the positive change in yourself. As Jim Rohn said, ” You are the average of the 5 people you spend time with“. So, maintain a permanent distance from toxic people.

8. Follow your heart

In this lockdown, we did something that we weren’t used to. People who never cooked were making dishes and sharing them on social media with everyone. The worst painter also started painting and posted the “Elite Artwork” on social media. People were singing, dancing, exercising, working, meditating. We got to know the importance of physical health and mental health. We followed our heart. It is rightly said that “Only special people follow their heart and suggest others to do so“.

After adopting these changes, we can overcome pandemic anxiety. ” World is one family and we are responsible to take care of our family“. It should be our approach to the pandemic. The fight is not over yet. We must take precautions because we don’t know how long it will take the world to become “Covid-19 free“. We all are hoping for the best. We will be living a pre-pandemic life very soon. Always remember one thing, “Tough times never last but tough people do“.
