Computer science is getting exposure all over the world after giving birth to numerous tech startups. Coding is an integral part of computer science. Coding is used for building or designing computer programs by using languages like JavaScript, Python, C++ etc. You can develop software, apps, websites & much more. It is found that only 25 out of every 10,000 people know how to code. If you know code, you have a superpower.
But coding is hugely overhyped by some people. People have overestimated this useful skill like there is the use of guns & barrels. Hence, they are transferring the same false information to their kids. Here are 3 myths that make people think of coding as a monster:-
1. Perception of society about coders
Movies have shown an altogether different image of coders or programmers which fits in the mind of people who don’t know much about coding. In movies, there is always a young & thin boy, wearing thick glasses, sitting in a dark room. He is always wearing a hoodie & working on multiple screens. Having a cup of coffee at his table & typing so fast that we want to break the keyboard. But the reality is the opposite. You don’t have to be a “geek” to be a coder. If you meet people who know how to code, you’ll see how normal they are.
2. You have to be genius
Because people like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg know how to code, we have made our mind that only genius people can code. To become a good coder, you have to do hard work with dedication & consistency. You don’t have to compete with the people from silicon valley. You are not supposed to be excellent in science and mathematics. You should be a creative & problem solver. Technology is something that gets updated every day. So, you should always be open to learning new things. There are numerous benefits of coding for students.
3. Learning to code is expensive
Some online platforms are ensuring that kids from the age group of 5-15 get introduced to the power of coding to create future creators & innovators. We should thank the digital revolution because people who can’t afford to buy courses can learn coding via several free courses, YouTube videos for absolutely free. People are learning to code from expert for a very minimal price. Hence, importance of coding in schools is huge.
